A baby’s first birthday is a major milestone. It’s a time to celebrate surviving the changes a new child brings as well as the child itself. Baby’s first birthday party is a chance for the parents to thank those people that helped them through the turmoil of becoming moms and dads. In this way, many first birthday themes are more about the exhausted parents than the baby. There are many ways to make your party exceptional without spending a lot of money Designating someone to take pictures of the baby with the guests as they arrive creates instant take home gifts and copies of the same photos can be put into photo albums or posted on line. As baby is too young to appreciate party games, it’s best to set up interesting activities for the adults. You can place a large picture mat somewhere where people can write messages to the little one. When the party’s over, it can be used to frame a photo and displayed. Why not try the same idea with a onesie or sippy cup? A time capsule for the baby is another fascinating idea. Decorate a box or can and have each guest write a memory or secret hope for the baby to be placed inside. When your guests have relaxed, offer them art supplies to make portraits of the birthday boy or girl. Soothe your self conscious guests by letting them know it doesn’t have to be perfect or even accurate to be interesting. Food can be suited to your guest’s tastes and you might want to consider catering to take some of the responsibility of cooking away. Paper plates and cups are also an excellent idea as your one year old will no doubt demand more of your attention due to excitement. A big cake, however, is non-negotiable.
